49Merc/Tesla running gear

Story in today's Seattle Times about a garage in S. LA that converts hot rods to electric. (sigh) What caught my eye was a stock looking 49 Merc that had been converted with parts from a wrecked Tesla. Not a future I want to see but it probably is inevitable.

The original article was from the LA Times.

Yeah, that'd be just about as exciting as the turbine-engined Unlimited Hydros are... great performance, but no soul.

I TOTALLY AGREE Hal, I quit going to the Hydro races and time trials when the turbine boats came in. I worked close to Lake Washington.
However, Len Williams (who recently passed away) had a 32 roadster that had a gas turbine APU from a jet that he drove around Seattle. I remember it driving by me at our EFV8 RG's "Ford Picnic" in 1985 or 1986 when we held it at the Husky Stadium parking lot. It was for sale for 10k and at that time it might as well been 10 million for me. Harold LeMay bought it and is still in the family collection. Len Williams was a Boeing engineer.

Wonder if the owner can claim an energy tax savings with the IRS?
Hope that's not the future if GREEN people get their way.
