'39 V8 60 Vin numbers ///strange numbers////// Hi all; I just drug in a true '39 V8 60 car. All seems correct, tube axle, 4.44 rear diff and 23 tooth speedo turtle. No eng/trans. The vin is odd to me, and looks totally original-fonts/spacing, ect. How about this: star 54-475XXX star the X's are my secrecy. Anyway I have never seen a 54- only the usual 18- . Your ideas please. thanks Newc

The tube axles were used with both 60 and 85 engines. I have a tube axle that I know was removed from a one-family owned, very low mileage '39 Standard with a V8-60 which was being restored as an 85-horse. I also know first-hand of a '40 Deluxe convertible that came from the factory with the big V8 and a tube axle. It is NOT true that all V8-60s came with a tube axle. It IS true that some 85s got the tube axles from the factory, all the way through 1940 production. I've never seen any logical rational as to how the tubes were assigned to any certain build. In addition, if you don't have the two proper V8-60 kingpin locking pins with your axle, the standard I-beam lock pins won't work! DD https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...4&d=1417886517 |
Re: '39 V8 60 Vin numbers ///strange numbers////// My all original unrestored 37 V8 60 does not have a tube axle. It does have the original aluminum intake and aluminum heads
