Rubber seals around doors my 55 Ford Fairlane has no seals around the doors, should it have them or not. I would think there should be some. Al

I did it while doors were on the car each time I had to replace gaskets. |
Re: Rubber seals around doors I still have 1 side to go on my car. The first I did with the door on the car, but I had a helper. The next one, I will mask off where I don't want the adhesive, saves lots of clean up.

Yes, I am married, and Yes, she is awesome! There is a whole lot more on the build if you visit my personal website... hundreds of graphics, videos, and all the rest concerning the 1955 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan. |
Re: Rubber seals around doors Now THAT is what a living room is supposed to be used for.

Re: Rubber seals around doors The first time I installed new door gaskets on my '55 Fairlane, I also did it with the doors off like Hotrodrev did, except I didn't use tape. Instead, I took long strips of 1/8" Masonite (I cut from scraps). I used C-Clamps to clamp the Masonite to the gaskets on the backside of the doors and strips of thick cardboard on the outside so that the C-clamp would not mar the paint finish on the outside. I used the long strips of Masonite and cardboard around window frames and at the bottom. At the curved part of the doors along the sides, I used shorter pieces of Masonite.
the glue held very well thru the years. The gaskets did not hold up that long. (Dennis Carpenter shrinking foam rubber). Horrible. I had to end up cutting off the parts around the windows and replacing it with a different product a couple years ago. Used same method to attach as before, except with doors installed on the car. |
Re: Rubber seals around doors Would you guy's recommend the Steele gasket's for my job? I used them on my 41 and they seemed ok, just got a little messy with the adhesive, and it's hard to clean up. Al
