Revise 7-tooth steering

Hello and a good day. In the winter I will revise the 7-tooth steering with the complete set of MACs.

As an additional accessory, there is a bottom plate with a tube so that the steering gear does not lose any oil. I do not understand its function.
Can someone please explain the function to me?

Thank you in advance!

Hello Werner,
It is a tube that’s attached to the bottom plug that will go up over the full level
Of your gear lube. Original steering boxes for the A did not have this anti leak
Feature. If you look up steering gear in most any of the catalogs (Brattons) you
Will see this part available.
Good luck on your project
Glen

I think this is what Glen is referring to.

Re: Revise 7-tooth steering

Since the horn rod has to go all the way through the bottom of the lower bearing, the gear oil inside the steering box can leak out that hole. The tube goes up into the cylindrical gap between the horn rod and the inside of the steering shaft, and it's long enough that its end is above the level where the gear oil filling hole is.
