Walter Dupont
 

Every time I drive my 1939 convertible sedan. I think of Walter DuPont. He built a fine running engine for me about 3 or 4 years ago. I really enjoyed visiting with him over the years. a friend of mine wanted to know who built my engine and how he could contact him to build an engine for his 1936. I gave him Walters phone number and address. He was unable to contact him. I was wondering what becaim of him. He was a great guy and a fine mechanic.

Not sure, but I think he had a stroke.

I remember that motor on the engine stand when up to see Walt, my 39 pick up puuurs like a kitten thanks to the Flathead king. Not sure he is currently taking on any motor work.

I was up to the Gardiner cruise night on August 28, he drove the A and hanging out with Ken W and Dick Q, the three amigo's talking cars as usual.

Hope to get up there to see him again and do some pick'in on our Martin's:D

Good news! He was reluctant to do any more engines but i convinced him to do mine. It’s a 221 A sleeve engine bored to 3.187 with a 4” mercury crank. Walt didn’t like adjustable lifters so he did it the old way by grinding the stems.if it wasn’t for the Cherry Bomb s you wouldn’t know the engine was running. He put a plate on the engine with the year built by Walter DuPont on the engine.That tag will stay on the engine as a legacy to the pride and craftsmanship of Walter DuPont. Hopefully next year I will visit with him during my annual trip to Maine.

Makes me feel real good, Walt is doing fine. I wish him well, not many of us old guys left.

If you are up next year and visiting, if ready will bring up my 26 Fordor an original car from PA you would appreciate it.

When I bought it a few years ago and told Walt he laughed and said "what do you want with one of those things, It's only got about 20 horsepower":D
