Warford Secondary - Educate Me

2 Attachment(s)
I've done a little bit of searching and I didn't really see any pictures of this particular model Warford secondary transmission.

I have a few questions:

How do you remove it? I've never had the pleasure of working on early Ford closed drive shafts; Any pointers how to take them apart?

Anyone have an info on this model Warford?

Anyone every seen one in the wild?

Based on how super low first gear is already, I'm hoping its an overdrive transmission. I'll need to pull it out of the chassis and spin it on the bench to find out.

Good find. When I was into AAs I was looking for one but never found one but talked to a guy with one in an AA. Most were over/direct/under drives with straight cut gears apparently they are quite noisy. I would trade lower revs at highway speed for some extra noise any day.
Check to see if the shifter has three positions or two then jack up the rear tires and have someone turn the tire while you look at the input shaft and shift the warford. It should give you an idea of what you have.

I have one that is an under drive. I think the drawings are the same trans
but for a Dodge and one for a Chevy.

i had one for the AA years ago that was just an under drive / direct. it was smaller, and round case not like the one in your pic. yours looks to only have one shift rail, therefore only 2 speeds also i would guess. if you got 3 detents on the shifter, is the center one neutral for PTO work?

BOOOO, it's an underdrive :(

And of course they tease me with having the input and output shafts the same splines... Makes me want to turn it around.

Any other options for faster gearing?

The lower trans is a 3-speed Brownie for a BB, or you could use the mid 80's
Ford 4-speed OD. The one pictured is setup for a Model A but you could use
a BB bell housing.
