1955 Ford wagon tail gate seal 1 Attachment(s)
I'm wondering what other wagon owners have done about the lower weatherstrip seal retainer? I searched through the junk yard and all the cars that had them where not salvageable. The original from our Ranch wagon is long gone. I'd like to fin an NOS one or something but was wondering if there's other options out there. Thanks

Re: 1955 Ford wagon tail gate seal There is another member, Poolplayer, that also had a 55 wagon. PM or email him and see if he can help you. Maybe dimensions or a lead. He has a post on this forum, so you can contact him.
If you have any idea of the dimensions of the piece, then a sheet metal shop may be able to make one up. |
Re: 1955 Ford wagon tail gate seal My '55 Courier wagon has a back door rather than a tailgate and lift window, BUT, I intentionally left off any seal at the bottom of the door so that the little open slot would relieve some cabin pressure as I went flying down the highway with the driver and passenger door windows open. Water can't get in there anyway unless somehow the laws of physics were defied, allowing rain water to run uphill. Right?

Re: 1955 Ford wagon tail gate seal Aside from the tailgate and liftgate gaskets, there is also supposed to be a one-piece rubber gasket that gets glued to the door-jamb of the car body. That gasket only runs along the top and sides, leaving the bottom open. Most of the resto parts suppliers offer that gasket as well as the tail and liftgate gaskets.

Re: 1955 Ford wagon tail gate seal You can get all the seals for your wagon from C&G ford parts. I ordered everything that I needed and it all fit just right. The Lower Tail gate Seal is part # B5A-5941608-D.
There is also an outer seal in that tailgate that I replaced and its part #B5A-7943726-A Hope this helps. You can go to www.cgfordparts.com and get your weatherstripping. |

Ended up fabricating a new one using the rusty one as a pattern

Re: 1955 Ford wagon tail gate seal Nice job

Re: 1955 Ford wagon tail gate seal That old one looks like you could have knocked all the rust off of it pretty easily using a wire-wheel attached to a bench-grinder. Then coat both sides with acid etch and let dry. Primer and overcoat with enamel, like new. (Unless there are bad weak spots and rust holes). But from the photos, it still looks pretty civil.

Re: 1955 Ford wagon tail gate seal It had allot of pitting and some large bad rust spots.

Speaking of which, anyone know of a source for a rear door seal for a '55 Courier? |
