Bronze shock arms

I've been collecting the necessary parts to put a set of shocks on my '30 coupe. I just bought a pair of rear arms on eBay and they arrived today. They appear to be made out of bronze!! No numbers/letters, but apparently conforming in all other regards. Center part. The Judging Standards describe shock arms in great detail, but I don't see any mention of material.

Has anyone seen arms like this? Any other words of wisdom?

Those are old reproduction arms. I think they were made in the 70's or 80's. What you may find is they are not strong like the forged arms and may bend over time.

Re: Bronze shock arms

the original shock arms were forged steel...much stronger than the repro bronze arms. The original forged arms are not too hard too find.

Live and learn! Next time I'll have to ask what they're made out of!! Happily, I just scored some forged steel ones at a fair price, so I'm happy. Anyone interested in some bronze rear shock arms?

Bronze is very expensive material.
I bet they are worth $20.00 or more just in scrape metal value.

Re: Bronze shock arms

I have a set (actually 2 sets) of Bronze Shock Absorbers and the matching bronze arms. These things were made by, I think I have it right, by Chicago Machine way back in the '70"s. Both sets are in good working condition, so i am using then on twwo different projects. The base is bronze but the covers are original Ford-Hoodille (sp). With a coat of pretty black paint most folks cant tell the difference. The only downside is they have a 50/50 resitance rather than the original 60/40 resistancd. kenp
