At least the way I used to :)
Got one of these hand pump oil extractors and decided that hand pumping is too much work.
So I rigged up and connected a vacuum pump to do the job.
Works like a charm and also gets more oil out of the pan than just draining does.

The drain hole in this Merc. pan is on the side of the pan and the hole level is 3/8" above the floor of the pan. You would have to tip the car on it's side to drain it.

Well look at you! I spent the better part two decades dropping hot oil for the general public. I can still remember the thrill of getting that stuff splashed in my face / mouth.
I guess you may now forego that pleasure.

When i had a boat a friend had a battery operated unit that did the same thing.
Was available from West Marine...if anyone is interested. m

Yes, in my boating days that was the way you changed the oil.

I think the secret here is the hefty vacuum pump you are using. In my boating days (funny how easy it is to get over that), I had that exact unit, only with a hand pump. It didn't work well at all.

Neat trick, but it's still a good idea to let the bottom of the pan fully drain. That's where the water and the sludge accumulate.

If your Merc. pan has the same anatomy as my Merc. pan/s it will never fully drain without some assistance.
The bottom of the drain hole is appox. 3/8" above the floor of the pan.
Pulling the oil out the dipstick tube does not remove all of the oil but it removes more than just draining does.

The C32 engines in the D11T dozers at work have a renewal system which pulls a number of gallons of engine oil out of crankcase and discharges it into the fuel tank (400 gallon capacity). Oil is replaced from a 15 gallon tank during this process. Oil seldom needs changing since it is renewed progressively. Other large CAT equipment has vacuum ports for removing engine oil, accessible from the shop floor.

Of course renewal systems don't meet the newer Tier levels.

Interesting, your drain plug is is the side. By 53', they put them in the back. Does make it a bit easier.

We had a local car dealer over here who was fined some time back for changing oils in new vehicles through the dipstick hole. Apparently it voided the warrantee.

There seems to be a difference in the engine location in relation to the front spindle C/L.
On the 49-51 the tie rod passes in the front of the oil pan, where as it appears that on the 52-53 it passes to the rear of the oil pan.
Thus the difference in the oil pan.

You'll never get the last drop and here is why. Check the bearings on my dad's Model A recently. Everything was nice and clean in there. The engine was in the car and the pan was off for a few weeks. I still had to wipe off dripping oil before installing the pan. Nothing special about the oil. Just 10-40 whatever but it hangs around on those parts for a long time.

I don't remember ever tearing down an engine that the bearings were dry, no matter how long it had set, unless it had been run out of oil! I have been doing this for 65 years.

Just use your floor jack to tilt the car a little. My 40 has the plug on the bottom so not an issue. So what if a few drops remain. What about the quart that's stuck up in the valley. Eventually if will all flush out anyway. You are beating a dead horse.

Mercedes is mostly designed for sucking out the dipstick tube, at first we took out the drain plugs, but nothing came out so the sucker system pulled more oil than the drain drained, the filter is on top and drains to the pan--- where I work has a system of air powered pumps filling the waste oil heating tank---- the small tubes for most cars not designed for top oil removal work too slow to be much use--- unless you aren't on the clock
