windshield frame Any tips on disassembling my windshield frame to paint and re-seal would be appreciated. (It's sitting on my bench) The search option reveals nothing, the 'Red' Les Andrews book nada, etc. I've seen a "How to" blow up and procedure somewhere but it's lost in my aging brain. Thanks for any help.

Re: windshield frame I take it being that you are going to paint the frame if needed you can heat the screws up. remove the two screws in each end and the two screws and nut on the front side.
now lay the frame face down on the bench. take a block of wood, (like a 2X4 ) on the glass up against the top on the inside corner, now take a hammer slide it a crossed the glass hitting the wood. try to work both ends. the top of the frame will come off. |
Re: windshield frame Got her done JW. Thanks. Now, any tricks for the petrified rubber removal and installation? The weather strips are like rocks! Just dig it out the best I can? Doesn't seem to be any other way.

Re: windshield frame it will come out a piece at a time. when installing the outer frame seal after painting. I use a pair of duck bill vise grips and watered dish soap. and pull the lower seal in first then the side. do NOT cut corners of the seal yet. you need to get the seal to relax in the grove. I like to let it set overnight. then cut and super glue the corners.
