I looked at this piece and said to myself later then the Model "A" ... And set up for right hand rear fender. If you tried to put it on a left hand Model "A' rear fender it will come very close to hitting the body i think or you will not see it that well.

This license topper was part of a $100,000.00 promotional campaign by Ford Motor Co. in 1949. 25 Ford sedans, 5 stake bed trucks, and multiple savings bonds were to be awarded if you were lucky enough to win with the best responses to a 50 word contest explaining why it is important to have a Ford Safety Check done on your vehicle. These toppers are sorta' rare and have a significant place in Ford history. In 1949, Ford sales took off. You might find additional info if you Google 1949 Ford Give away. Later, BW

I just had a great idea for a Model A license topper: a nice color cut-out of Old Henry smashing a V-8 block with a sledgehammer ! :D

Here is your $10 reproduction... It's a sticker on metal.

I just made one by ptinting the picture in reverse on clear shelf liner
then put it on a piece of aluminum sheet & clear coated it. I'm going
to leave it outside for a few days to see how it holds up.

Looks like making a bunch of repro's of these would be a good fund raiser for the new Model A museum.

I don't know how to post a link, but if you search for Life magazine, October 24, 1949 you can get the cover page and can search the issue. The Ford promotional page can be found, enlarged, and saved to your hard drive. I did that and have the ad in my garage. Pretty neat! BW

Somewhere I have a small book put out by Ford in 1949 promoting safe driving. I'm sure it was released in conjunction with the safety campaign.

Re: Cool ebay stuff

the originals used slightly reflective paint. China still uses lead paint in the kid's toys they ship here, so I'm sure they can paint your repros with the authentic stuff.
Shame on you for suggesting it be made offshore anyway.

A while back, I saw this 1931 ACA badge on Ebay and thought it would be great to have on the "A".

Once the bids went over $1500, I changed my mind.
