Part Identification #32
 

Looking for some help on this item. I believe it's an ignition and trunk lock or ignition and glove box lock. Any thoughts?

I think the left one is a trunk lock and right looks like door lock

Looking at the key, its a 50"s era Ford, not sure what the 51-53 Key look like but I know the late 5o's Fords used that key.

I can only tell you that my 54 used that type of key.square type for doors and ignition round for trunk and glove box.I am pretty sue it was used for several years through the 50s

I can tell you our 55 Ford, 55 T-Bird, 59 Ford & 59 T-Bird had the same shaped keys, As stated, square is ignition and round is trunk and glovebox AND If memory serves me correct I think that key ran at least to 1962 as our 62 Galaxy 500 Convertible had the same key and suspect it went to around 1963/64.

I had a 1957 300 Custom and the key looked the same.

I have an ignition key handy for a '55 Ford, and it is slotted on the opposite side of the one you have pictured. So all I can say is that your keys pictured are NOT for a '55 Ford ignition switch.

My 57 T Bird keys look like that. they will have been used across many years and models.

you are a great person for this site bur if you mean the slot on one side of key.that is the narrow one the other side has a wider one

My '55 ignition key has a wide slot on one side (right side bottom when teeth are pointing down) and no slot on the other side. So no narrow slot at all on either side. I guess it's possible the style was changed by a previous owner.

I checked all my keys {6}5 had the 2 slots but 1 was like yours.the one with single slot is a brass key but it is in a spare switch and has ford script also the head is a diamond shape rather than like my others.I think we both have a key you could have cut by key shop due to different shape.unless we travel back in time:DI guess it will remain a mystery no hard feelings?ps my car is a california car not canadian so that eliminates that being a factor

My key with the single (wide) slot also has a diamond shaped head, but say Ford on it with the Ford crest. Looks too fancy to be a hardware store cut replacement, but maybe back then they were fancier ? Yep, no hard feelings, just a hard mystery to me. My Car is a '55 Ranch Wagon with low miles from Kansas.

Typically door and ignition locks were matched to each other. Trunk and glove box locks were matched and were different from the door and ignition. The keys were the same except for the head. Crest keys were typically door and ignition and round keys were trunk and glove box.
With only two locks shown my guess this would be for a trunk/glove box set.
I am not familiar with every application but I just did a set of door locks for a 1956 Ford Victoria and they looked just like the lock in the picture with the stainless cover.

My 50 Ford original key (not being used now) is also square for ig and door and round headed key for glove box which is being used. It also has Ford script on one side and the rocket to match door garnish on the other side.

My 1964 Falcon has a similar key. Square ignition and door, round trunk.
