1948 Sedan Radiator mounting question Hi,
It's been a while since I removed the radiator from my '48 sedan and I can't remember how it bolts up. I think the bottom brackets bolt to the top of the frame but can't remember what the top brackets attach to. Any help or pictures would be appreciated. |

Here's a diagram of the radiator set up for 42 to 48 cars. You can thank Mac Van Pelt for this as I nicked it off his site. The bottom brackets on the radiator bolt to the dog legs on the bottom of the radiator cradle. There are long bolts that go through these with heavy springs and a nut. C&G, Drake etc have these for sale. Up towards the top on both sides or the radiator are key holed shaped apperatures. Coach bolts are slipped in these and the square under the head is slipped down to the bottom of the "key hole" and these are bolted into the corresponding holes in the cradle. This cradle bolts into the centre of the front frame cross member with a special bolt, once again check C&G , Drake or the like for these. hope this helps. GB |
Re: 1948 Sedan Radiator mounting question Thanks, i figured it out. The lower brackets have cage nuts and bolt to the frame and the upper brackets with the "keyhole" bolt to the inner fender aprons.

Re: 1948 Sedan Radiator mounting question I'm needing to replace my radiator in my 48' sedan. It's a 6 not an 8. The rad I took out can not be repaired, so I'm looking for a new one. The one I took out is about 16" wide and 29-1/2" tall. Any suggestions, help would be appreciated.
