Exhaust Pipe/Wish bone arm.
 

Installed economy headers from speedway on my 48 ford all original,59A engine. Right side dumped out in front of the oval cut out in frame, left side did not, Does the wish bone arm from the center of the car to the front axle move much? Because that is where i want to run my exhaust pipe,between frame and arm. Any pics of what someone else did or advice would help. Thanks in advance.

My '41 came with dual exhaust to original manifold. Whoever put it in ran the left exhaust over the wishbone and under the frame. On any dip in the road, the wishbone banged the exhaust pipe. There is just not enough clearance to go that way. I bought economy headers and took them to an old time muffler shop to install. They welded on flanges to connect, instead of slip-on with clamps. The right was easy. The left took some bending to fit it through the frame. They had to mash the pipe a little to get clearance for the clutch pedal. About $250 for the install. Worth it!

I agree with drolston, you should employ a custom exhaust shop to fabricate a pipe that will clear the front radius arm. This is what I had to do on our '47. Also they welded the flanges too. No clamps.

After two response's and both say no good between frame and wishbone arm. I couldn,t bring it to a shop so I spent the week end doing my own custom work and weld it to go thru frame holes. Exhaust is in with Smitty Mufflers,Got a few more things to do before I try and start it. New cam,new valve's and a dual carb setup. Hope it runs. Haha. Thanks for your advice.
