Oil leak at dipstick?
 

So where the dipstick is riveted to the pan it is leaking, any ideas how to stop it from leaking ? Besides pull the pan and put some bolts in it.

Remove existing rivets (the tail ends will fall into the pan and probably not be a problem)
Install 3/16" Riv-nuts and fabricate a suitable gasket.

First you might try cleaning around it real good. (brake cleaner, carb cleaner). Then caulk the edges neatly with JB weld. Should do it.

I cleaned mine real good , then applied silicone gasket sealer around it . I found some sealer that was the same color as the engine . No leaks so far . - FF

Alright thanks guys. I will check those out. Probably try some RTV sealer first.

Next time you have the pan off you can deal with the issue, gasket, new rivets or bolts. The old gasket will be oil soaked and getting RTV to stick may be tough.

Yeah I wish I would of known about this issue when the motor was out. I had all kinds of time to fix it the right way. Maybe the jb weld will work better or how hard is it to get the rivets out of the not a whole lot of room.

Ain't that the truth....I had the engine and tranny out and didn't check/change the clutch parts...Guess what I got to do three months later? Yep!

I did something similar to 51 Merc.
With the pan off, I cleaned the area, removed he existing stuff.
Then I brazed three short allen head cap screws to the inside
of the pan. Made a gasket, assembled & used 3 SS Acorn nuts
to secure it. No leaks & looks cool

I think I should just try and take the pan off and fix it the right way. How come you guys just didn’t use a nylock nut ?

So you don't have to take the pan off again, to hold the nut if the tube boss has to be tightened or removed in the future.

Yeah that makes sense. Do you use any sealer putting the tube in the base ?

A little non-hardening pipe dope can't hurt.

Back in the day, say 1953 and earlier, there were black paths down each road, about a foot wide, down the center of the driving lane. These paths were a bit wider, and much blacker, at stop lights and stop signs.

They are now gone. Modern roads do not have them, for the most part. Or they are very faint. Because cars and trucks don't drip oil like they did back then.

If you look at the bottom of the oil pan on a pre-49 Ford you will find a hole under the flywheel. Usually with a cotter pin in it. To let the oil from the rear main bearing seal drip out of the pan. Hence the black on the road.

Don't worry about your dip stick leak.

you might try some 2 part fuel tank repair stuff from Napa clean well with brake kleen or the like
