Good source for ignition resistor?
 

Dennis Carpenter is out. I see VanPelt has them, a bit more expensive. In fact, they have two, but I suspect the more expensive one is the one to get. Any suggestions?

See if you can figure out how they are made. A lot of the repo ones are wire wound around bamboo! Then need to be ceramic.

NAPA sells a bunch of them. Depends what resistance you need.

ICR13 ballast resistor is 1.8 ohms, ceramic body

Dennis Carpenter they might as well offer them for free. Price really shouldn't be a factor on something that has no supply should it ? I don't know how many times I have heard so and so will sell a _____ for $5.00 less - but they can't get one. I'm not trying to be an ass, just realistic. If you need it and VanPelts has it I think I would order it or look into Ross's suggestion

You didn't mention which vehicle this resistor is needed for, or if this a stock application. What failed on your existing/stock resistor? Or did I miss this in a previous post?

I guess you need one for a 6 volt coil and resister .5 ohms.
I would buy one like on ebay or electric parts store.
Wirewound Power Resistor .5 OHM 10W
ebay # 190872910377 for less then $10 worth the try.

Find an ORIGINAL FORD resistor on Ebay or at a swap meet. The Ford resistor has all the correct specifications of the wire to match the ford coils. Any other resistor is only a guess at the original specifications even though the ohms reading may be .5 ohms. As the resistor heats up its specs change and the wire has to be correct as well as the ceramic former it is wound on. The original Ford part number is 18-12250 or later 11A-12250. In my opinion that is the only one to buy. All others are a mystery bag. Regards, Kevin.

You might trying to clean all the contact points and wire connections before you buy something that doesn't work. I cleaned mine and it works fine now, it would not start when hot, had to wait until it cooled down then it worked. Got this tip from a FB'er and it worked. Al

Thanks for all the suggestions. I should have looked at Hershey. I did send an e-mail to Fred Wilner to see if he has any.

Great ideas, Kevin and Al. I don't know why I don't think about eBay right off the bat, but one never knows what you are getting there.

I was assuming that Charlie and VanPelt were selling NOS, but that might be a bad assumption!!

We have a limited supply of these as NOS. Whether you get it from us or another source, I would stay with the original type.
