40 Ford Radio to New Elecronics

I am looking for someone that can convert an original 40 Ford radio to a new 12v am/fm radio. What I need is for someone to gut out the old electronics and substitute new modern electronics. I am also looking for a USB port to be added. Anybody know a source for a conversion to the 40 radio?

I don't know a source, but I have seen post in the past of folks that do this type of work.

Like JSeery, I can't tell you WHO, but I can tell you WHO TO AVOID. One of our club members sent a 36 radio to Bill the Radio Guy in Shelton WA and got back a 37 radio with shoddy workmanship and things done not asked for. Do not use this guy.

They did 2 of mine. My mistake was sending both at the same time. Not very satisfied with either of the radios. When I turn off either radio and turn it on again the previous station may or may not play. I might have to re-tune it again. They said that is a feature and not a fault. Made me pretty mad after spending a lot of money. BTW they now say they install a different board that doesn't have that feature. But I have to send them the whole $500 each again! No thanks. They did my 36 Ford and 63 Corvette radios.

On my latest restoration I hid a modern radio with remote in an empty heater box. The radio is actually only half as deep as the usual radio and is designed for boats. No problems with tuning and costs less than half of what turnswitch charges.

If I were to do it again I would ask a lot of questions instead of hoping what I got didn't have tuning "features" that I hate or hide a modern radio somewhere.

On my 49 Ford I bought a new reproduction radio. Works fine.

Sorry to hear that they did not meet your expectations.
I use mine primarily for MP3 input and don't have any issues when using the radio. Even the 7 speakers are happy with the input they are receiving. :)

My expectation was if I were tuned into a station it should come back on when I turned the radio off and on again. Too much to ask? I'm not as high tech as you!

I've used turnswitch.com on a couple of my radios. Very happy with them.

I second "Angledrive", as Gary Tayman.com did mine in a 50 Merc. Not cheap, but works on AM/FM as claimed and looks completely stock, down to the "low noise, bass, hyfidelity," indicater at the top of the dial, and can have MP3 or add stereo speakers with lots of power. MIne cost a little more because of being 6 volt and needing power booster to 12 volt.

You should ask some questions about the tuning. The board that didn't work out for me said "Antique Radio Company" on it. The problems are with tying in the new board with the old tuner or buttons.
