36' lug pattern not wide five. 1 Attachment(s)
i'm looking to buy a 1936 5 w coupe. it doesn't have the wide five pattern on the wheels. did ford sell these any other way? the owner says they were on it when he bought it in the 50's. they are 16x5 , i'll try and post a picture.

Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five. Looks like early '50's Merc wheels and '40-'48 drums to me. It was an easy (and common) swap in the '50's and ''60's.

Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five. wow, nice fast reply! thank you for that. I would post better pics, but I can't get to them the way ford barn loads them. it's probably that I'm not doing something right though.

Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five. wheels look later to me, with outie nubs for late hub caps, and not innie nubs like 40-48 caps

I expect you'll find more parts than just wheels under that car, that are not from a '36 Ford. Not saying that's good or bad, just saying to expect it. |

Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five. fordnut
Welcome to the ford barn. I like your coupe, I had one in the late 1960's. Mine had a Columbia two speed and a mercury engine with glass pacs. Dark gray primer and bucket seats. Lots of fun. Bruce |

Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five. All good fun and memories of the hunt.
The 875 mile round trip was as good as a holiday memory. The fact that it did not pan out was probably a good omen. Much better than dragging something home after much deliberation and thought, and the next day, after looking at it in the garage in a sober light ... , wished you hadn't. |
Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five. UPDATE! well I ended up getting it after all. somebody bought it from the seller I was dealing with and decided he wanted a 30 model a. I found his conversation on another site and commented that if he wanted to get rid of it to let me know. and he did. he had started to buy some things for it and said I had to take them too, whatever, it's ok. another long drive, this time with my nephew, and it's home. now to stare at it for awhile. . .

Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five. Looks like you might have scored on the basics for a nice car.. If you need any help with parts/info let me know, I'm not that far away..
The raised lip on the wheels tell me that they could be Mopar in lieu of Ford. Ford wheels 1940 and later are 5 on 5.5, not 5 on 5. Is this a miss print in your earlier comments. |
Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five. 1940 Hydraulic brakes would give you those drums and pattern. Or simply putting 1935 drums on a 1936 car and keeping the original mechanical brakes is a possibility too.
