94 Carb Power Valve Threads Partially Stripped I have some power valves with threads that are damaged slightly. They test good.
Anyone know how to fix the threads? |
Re: 94 Carb Power Valve Threads Partially Stripped You can try to repair the bad threads with some small swiss files. I've used a "V" shaped one before to fix minor thread damage.
I'm not sure what size thread it is, but pretty sure it's not a standard size. You could check to see if there is a threading die available for it. Charlie ny on Ford Barn, may have better advice. Sal |
Re: 94 Carb Power Valve Threads Partially Stripped Whatever you do, make sure you can screw the power valve in with your fingers after repairing the threads. Why ruin a good carb by forcing in a bad valve?
The usual damage is from cross-threading and then grabbing a wrench to force it. In this case, it's usually just a few end threads that are damaged and can be filed off. Just clean any burrs off the first good thread so it will start easily. Or, there are thread files made with a different thread pitch on each side and end for a total of 8 different thread sizes on each file, and files with pitches different from other files. One good source is tool trucks like Mac, Matco, Cornwell, etc. |
