1932 Ford Fuel Tank Installation
 

Has anyone installed a Tanks Inc 11 gallon fuel tank in a Pete and Jakes chassis?

I am in the process of doing it and the rear lip of the tank is resting on top of the bolts that hold the leaf spring to the chassis.

Is this the right way ro install the tank?

I have had to trim the lip on the tank. Just be careful not to get into the pinch weld on the edge. On some installs I have had to get into the pinch weld and then tig weld the lip back together and leak check it. I have found that on some chassis with the after market rear cross spring crossmember that the Vintigue tank is a better fit as they have the pinch weld closer to the tank and it is easier to trim.

Thanks for the came back.

I'm using a stainles steel tank from Tanks Inc. The weld seam is about 1/4" from the edge. Not enough room to trim before I hit the weld. I thought I might rise the tank with an additional rubber pad but I don't know if the extra height will interfere with the body. I don't have the body as yet!

As Krylon says, you may have to trim beyond the weld and re weld it.

:)Regarding the raising of the tank, you have only about 1/8-3/16" space above it, when the body is mounted and the tank is in the stock position. This is to provide room for the rear frame horn covers which have a grommet installed in them to prevent rubbing between the body and any other metal parts.The repo tanks have the additional "gallonage" at the bottom of the tank, the top being stock. tanks inc? i think my friend mentioned me that one. can you give me a link where to get that stainless steel tank? i just heard a lot of positive feedback from that product. looking forward on getting it. i also found this site that might help others but i dont think it has some ford fuel tanks for 30's model :D

I bought the 32 gas tank frame kit for this hot rod 30 tudor/ now three door from Dagel's and a stainless 11 gallon tank from tanks. My tank edge just hit the 90 degree elbow gusset on the driverside inside edge. A couple of hard strikes with a sledge hammer before paint and primer of course and I moved it a touch and it now clears without hitting or touching the tank at all. The slight bow inside the add on U frame isn't visible once the tank is installed. Hope this helps? And yes I have original un molested model A's as well. This was a car that was going to the scrap yard it was that bad 😂 so tons of cash kater it will be a saved model A with a 39 flattie and an S10 T5 juice brakes etc.
