My spare tire? 1 Attachment(s)
No not that one, this one. Anyone have any idea how old this is,it definitely looks old.
|
Re: My spare tire? If I read the tire correctly it is 6.00 x 16, which is correct for a '41. Judging from the color of the wheel, the color of your '41, and the small hubcap center, I would say that wheel is 76 years old! It could be as old as 1936, or as new as 1948.

That is a very old Tyre that shows the Good-Year Flag. |
Re: My spare tire? If it has no date code, I'd figure a guess later 50s or early 60s on the tire. The smooth steel wheels came on the scene in 1940 for Ford. 1936 through 1939 were all wide five.

Here is a picture of the tread.

Re: My spare tire? The ad in the link below states that the "diamond tread" was available '32-'48...........? Maybe so, or maybe no! No doubt about it...that IS a '40 or '41 4"-wide wheel, obvious by the shape of the stampings around each lug hole. DD

Re: My spare tire? If it doesn't have a DOT date code on the tire DO NOT USE IT!

Re: My spare tire? Goodyear started making the Eagle all weather tires somewhere around 1949. This link from the UK shows adds for them up to 1953 but I think they made them a lot longer than that. They made the Goodyear Eagle motor cycle tires clear up to the late 1970s. My first HD big twin came with them. They were scary tires too. I like the modern compound tires a lot better.

Re: My spare tire? I emailed Goodyear and they forwarded it to the University of Akron(they have Goodyear's archives) and this is the response I recieved.
We got it. The images came through fine and we’ve started going through the Goodyear material. Early indications are that brand of tire was manufactured in the 1930s and 1940s. We don’t have much information on the Canadian manufacturing operations but we may get lucky. Hope to get back to you sometime next week with an update. www.jalopyjournal.net John |
