Removing door pins

Has anyone used the door pin removal tool

I have one, it works, but not very well. The frame and pins are not near as strong as they need to be.

Look at post #3 on this thread...

I used a 12" drill bit and it worked perfect.

Hi one trick is to drill out just the top 1/4" of the pin. that is the oversize and serrated part that holds the pin in. Newc

Re: Removing door pins

I used the Drake door pin removal tool and was able to move all the pins up about 1/16". I have not completely removed the pins yet, but I considered that a success.

Re: Removing door pins

I've used the tool on several cars to remove door pins, without much of a problem, but the pins weren't heavily rusted, either.

If the pin is rusted badly, you won't be able to just force it out with the tool, but will have to try to soak it in penetrating oil, use the 'heat wrench', drill it out or any of the other various methods to get rusted parts to move.

I tried everything and finally heat with sedaline did the trick.

I used an air chisel with drift point. Protect your door if you like your paint.

I just used the clamp/press tool recently and it worked pretty well. I soaked the pins for a couple of days.I stared by adding pressure and letting it sit with pressure and added more oil. Then came back and added more pressure till it moved. I actually used heat from a big soldering iron on one to help. Old pins had a spiral groove, new ones were smooth.

I used the tool and can still hear the gun shot sound when the pin broke loose ! It worked great on my '50 F-1.

Re: Removing door pins

I have used the hinge pin tool that is presently available commercially with no problems at all. The door hinge pins came out very easy. The hinges were not rusted and in good shape. I am sure that helped.

I used the Drake one several years ago and it broke into pieces. Ended up drilling them out, which might not be the best way.
