Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... Were there any other "reprints" besides the Post-Era (1957) and the MARC (1997) Ford Model A/AA Service Bulletins??? Maybe one in the late 60's or 70's???
Thanks. Pluck |
Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... Was the 1957 the one with the cord to bind it together?
I have a set of those I bought off ebay about 20 years ago. I can't think of the guy's name right now who wrote them. Ben Staub is the one I have, from 1974. |
Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... have one, Dan Post productions., dated 1972, hardbound.

Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... The two exact copies I have of the original blue covered 8.5" x 11" FORD SERVICE BULLETINS are 3-hole loose-leaf book, held together by a blue cord, tied together in the middle hole, much like a shoe lace. I bought these two at the time they were being published, promoted and sold through the local chapters of the MAFCA - 1974. I believe they were also advertised in the RESTORER magazine and elsewhere as well.
These copies are identical to the originals issued by the Ford Motor Company. The 8.5"x11" blue cover has embossed edges and a contrasting gold imprint saying "Ford Service Bulletin". It says 'Bulletin' - no 's'. In looking at the opening page, "FORWARD", it says, "Compiled by BEN STAUB", "Published by the Dayton Carrier Co., 6161 Rip Rap Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424" "Ben Staub 1974" Doug Vieyra, Eureka, Calif |
Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... Thanks Doug, that's the set I bought on ebay about 15 years ago.
I corrected the name on my posting above. |
Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... There are only 4 reprints that I am aware of, the MARC copy (out o0f print), the yellow hardbound "Complete" copy that is not complete (available from the dealers), the full size soft bound green cover (available from the dealers), and the next best thing to the originals the Ben Staub copy. I sold a nice copy of the Ben Staub SBs here on the Swap Meet page last year. I have a pretty good copy of the MARC reprint that I might be willing to part with.

Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... The Australian Model A Restorers Club, offered a copy of the Canadian Service Bulletins interlaced with the Ford Australia Service Bulletins. They also have now sold out and I understand that they are unlikely to be repeated.

Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... So, then is the yellow one not good? ... I just picked up a used copy of it...
Sounds like the other versions are hard to come by, and probably expensive! |
Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... Originals or the Ben Staub are the very best, but the ones published by the national clubs are also excellent. Too bad they don't publish more of them.
The yellow book has missing pages showing pictures inside the workshop, etc. and it's also something like 2/3 size, which makes it harder to read. |
Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... My first copy (1962) was same size as yellow one BUT in paperback. I kept it in the car for more than 45,000 miles. It was my emergency roadside reference book if repairs were needed.
I am not sure what color it was originally. Might have been gray with blue lettering. ( Ron C posted a photo of it ... see post #13) Last time I saw it, it was grease colored from being used for transmission and differential repairs. As I remember it might have been a Floyd Clymer publication. |

Agreed Tom.. the old Ben Staub ones are excellent. I've had an original cover I sold to Gordon I. one time and it was black just like Ben Staubs cover. Is the earlier original cover or is it like the MARC set which as a '29 front on it? Any thoughts to ad guys? Larry Shepard |

I think this was the first reprint with white cover

Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... The yellow covered one I bought in the 70's for 7.00 dollars and still have it. It was the first book I bought.

Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... There is also the "Model A Service Manual and Handbook" by Victor Page. It looks to have information from the service bulletins in it. The Preface is dated April 1929.

I believe the red book shown below "FORD MODEL "A" CAR" is the book you are referring to. This is a 1929 copy. The book was written with the full cooperation of FMC and it was intended as an operation/service/repair book for the owner that wanted to do his own maintenance. Some of the information in the book may be similar to some of the information in the early Service Bulletins as they were compiled during the same period. The second image is of an ad for the diagnostic chart that was advertised in the back of the original books. This chart was intended to be used in conjunction with the book to identify possible problems so the owner could use the book to make repairs. The chart is being reprinted and is available both by most dealers and also here on the Swap Meet page. The red book is available as a reprint with the blue and gold hardbound cover. |

Yes, the Model A Ford Club of Great Britain has recently reprinted the Service Bulletins published by the Ford Motor Company ( England) Ltd for the years 1928, 1929, and 1930. See our website www.mfcgb.org.uk (also just published on the website is the data base list of present known As in the UK) |
Re: Reprints of the Model A/AA Ford Service Bulletins... My well thumbed copy of Victor Page's book is a Post reprint from the 70's, paperback but they did not come with the chart. I do however have a copy of his V8 book from the later 30's with the diagnostic chart.
