Rock Auto Lines

1 Attachment(s)
The front brake lines for the 52 Merc arrived in the mail this week. Rock auto came through with the best price and fast delivery. I see they are made in China (Sunsong) so I hope they are decent quality. I won't be trying the install until it warms up a bit here.

We have little or no choice about where things are produced now days. There is someone from Argentina that advertises brake lines on flea-pay for the 49 thru 51 Mercs. I've always wondered where those are made. The last set of early F100 brake drums I purchased from Rock were made in Canada and were very good quality sold under the Raybestos name. They had the choice of either Canadian or Pacific Rim. The Canadian ones even had the knock out for the adjustment slots but I just left them in there.

Isn't it a shame, profit before quality!

It makes me wonder if the same lines I could have bought from Napa Canada at nearly triple the price might have been made in North America? Seems to me the wheel cylinders I got from them were made in Mexico.

Not sure that is entirely correct, it's consumers putting price before quality. I am sure there are many US supplier more than willing to provide quality products IF the market was there. You see it on this site every day, folks want the cheapest product that will get by, not the best quality products. There are many quality US suppliers, Brassworks is an example, but consumers want a lower cost option. Same with brake lines, there are higher cost quality options available.

I bought brake drums for a later model Mercury from Rockauto. They were from Argentina. I like them. Seem like good quality......... Mark

Just bought a rear brake hose for a '40 from Napa... you guessed it; made it China and too short. Looks like I'll use one from Carpenter; Sunsong hose, but says it was Assembled in the U.S. We'll see how well it holds up...

JSeery has made a solid observation and a very valid point.

I've been using the cheap rock auto hoses and other brake parts. They don't look as good as OEM, kinda skinney
