A weekend what is it? Auction find.

Bought this today at a farm auction. Didn't even see it before bidding and was in the back but I saw chrome plated and diagnostic tool and bought this plus a mac tools timing light and a craftsmen soldering gun for 2 bucks. Made by Harvey E. Hanson Co. of Paw Paw, Michigan. When I looked at it closely and saw regulator and generator tester it made my day. Can't find anything online so hopefully someone has seen or used one.

The instructions are relatively straight forward. The only thing I noticed is that they probably should warn the user to disconnect on the generator current test as soon as it reaches max current. No point in burning up a generator or a regulator. A person only needs to know that the generator can still do the job it was intended to while under control from the voltage regulator (generator control unit is really a better term).

If the meter selections still function and the wire leads are all still good then you have a good score there. It seems to be a relatively well made unit. Since it mentions 12-volt then it was likely made sometime between 1956 when 12-volt took over and mid to late 60s after generators were out of vogue.

What? You paid $2 for that? It is only worth barely $1.46 or so! So, in the spirit of kindness I'll give you your $2 back and pick it up at your doorstep. And I'll even let you use it occasionally. Any other bargains?

I am making a new cabinet for my shop and plan on making a special area inside one of the doors for the ancient old tools I still find handy and have gathered along the way. Figure someday the wife may want to hang me there after I am gone.

My wife will likely put me in a bread bag after incineration so it might work that way.
