How do you tell If the steering gears in the Model T Ford steering column are 4 to 1 or 5 to 1? Thanks

The 4 to 1 gears have no markings, while the 5 to 1 gears have a 5 on them. If you want to change the gears, you must use the correct pinion for that set. The pinions for the 4 to 1 are different than the 5 to 1.

You can count the # of teeth on the pinions.
