1935 head light sockets-HATE THEM
 

Replaced the drivers side head light bulb this afternoon, been a couple of years sense I changed the passenger side. I remember a post I did then, still a BIG pain. I changed one after a hour or so, the new China bulb was BAD. Went to my old stock drawer and found a lamp I had removed from a 6volt 1939. Westinghouse bulb, another hour to get back in socket, what is the direct replacement socket that will fit my new reflectors installed years ago, standard twist two pin, thanks Bruce

The standard light bulb for 35-39 is a #2330 35/35 CP.

Hey Bruce -- I'm a new '35 owner, what's hanging things up? Haven't done this chore yet.

Bruce, those sockets also gave me a fit until i found a way to relax the spring tension on the three locking pins that hold those bulbs in the sockets. Somehow I came up with a way to push in on the three springs on the rear of the socket. This takes enough tension off the pins which allows the bulb to turn so they could be easily removed and a new bulb installed.
I also prefer using the new generation halogen bulbs that light up the road much better than any of the filament bulbs and draw less current than the early generation halogens.

I use Halogen bulbs in my 32 Cabriolet - they GREATLY improve the overall lighting at night. Once you have them, you'll never go back to using bulbs. I an actually see where I'm going. LOL

I found some ceramic sockets years ago and have not had any

Never had any problems with stock sockets or original bulbs with original reflectors, either install or uninstall. Are your reflectors original or reproductions?

I don't know of anyone that makes them like Henry did. Most are crap. I can see why a person would hate the the repros.

I had to wrestle the same fix on our '36, sometimes you need three hands definitely not an 'easy' repair. It could have been designed a little better.

But that was with repop reflectors that may have been a factor.......

Where did you get the Halogen bulbs? I have NOS reflectors in my Zephyr and had them recoated by Uivira in Oregon and have original sockets

I converted my generator over to an alternator - was an expensive deal (by EJ Whitney), then I run a 35 Watt Halogen bulb and special reflectors.

What you can probably do is buy a bulb like this - I've heard of guys having good luck with these low-watt halogens, but I've not used them.
