paw spring
 

This is a small thing but does any one know how to R&R one of these things.
Photo's attached. My spring is broken and I don't see any way of removing the pin that holds it in.

The locking pawl appears to be riveted. Rivets can be sourced though Hanson or other suppliers. http://www.hansonrivet.com/

If your not a stickler for authenticity, you could drill the rivet head & punch it out then replace it with a screw and locking nut after the spring function is repaired. You would need to get a good fit to insure the locking pawl functions as it should.

I tried to rivet mine and then it was to tight, I ground the rivet head back off and then used a shoulder bolt and nylon insert lock nut. I am happier with the way it releases now. I got the shoulder bolt from Mcmaster Carr. I don't plan on having it judged.

Doug what spring did you use--as luck would have it, the spring on my 48 F1 broke today!

I haven't replaced it yet but have seen the springs on several web sites. Not sure if Carpenters had them but will check since their only a few miles away. I will replace with a bolt and lock nut or if I can find the right size pin i'll use that and a small carter key.

I drilled the upset side of the pin, replaced the spring, put the pin back in place and used a small tack weld to secure it.
