I have the 1949 version in my woodie. Very nice. But you can use a 6v dash with 12v by buying cheap voltage drops. Many early "12v" dashes have that. |
Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster Thankyou for the replies. I meant a stock original repro dash that is 12V. Anyone make those? I'm not too fond of the classic instruments one

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster Here's one for sale. Also, check Ebay.
http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...+gauge+cluster Buy it and have it converted to 12V. Some good reading: http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ter+conversion http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...uge+12V&page=2 My solution is posted in #8 response here. I still am using the OEM gas tank fuel sending unit since 12V units don't work with the OEM FUEL gauge. However, i suppose it would be possible to get this this converted to operate on 12 volts so it would work using a modern 12v fuel tank sending unit. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ight=1940+BATT Here's a modern 1940 Ford "STYLE" gauge cluster. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Classi...er,112215.html You must read this thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...e-mine.805408/ and https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48622 |
Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster I live 30 miles from Classic and was there this past Summer. Yes they do make a '40 cluster, but .......$$$$$$ very expensive. The one they showed me was for a '40 Standard and was $750. It was 12v.......and they had included a Tach in it too which really looked bad ass. They really do nice work.

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster There is someone in the forcsalecsection that sells refurbished 40 gauge clusters. Do a search there ....

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster I have a new standard, that is 12 volts. If its what you want? Art.:)

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster I bought the classic panel. A little pricey, but you only live once.

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster Convert it yourself. Use some L7806 for gas, oil, and temp gauges and a 60ohm resistor for the Battery gauge. I did mine in my '40 for about $5 total.

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster Ernie: Is this the correct L7806?

Re: 1940 ford gauge cluster You can use the 6 volt gauges with a Ford Instrument Voltage regulator as used in 1957 and later.
