Fun with 41 Mercury

Got a chance to show off Grandpa's Mercury at my daughter's wedding. I was amazed at how the young kids were so impressed. These were a few amateur photos but the wedding photographers went crazy with it.

The old 4 door may not be sporty but sure does impress when you do the chauffeur thing. Must seem like a limo to the kids who grew up in the back of our minivans.

I did not think the daughter even remembered Grandpas old car but I guess this wedding ride has been in the back of her mind for a long time.

A great day for all of us. Thanks to the barn guys for helping me get her bugs worked out and my friend Jim for doing a quick safety inspection the day before.

I am not a fordor guy but have always had a soft spot in my heart since I owned a '41 Merc fordor many years ago. They look and ride wonderful I always figured I would run across another one some day. Problem is the someday I come across one is the someday all I have in my pockets is Lint! I'm glad they enjoyed it.

Great memories are formed by fun experiences . . . way to go! Maybe, just maybe we'll have a new generation of FordBarners as a result. :)

She is in my front garage now and my Explorer 'V8' sits out. We have unusually good weather and I am hoping to have her out a few times more for fun before I pull her in for a long winter of 'improvements'. I am really impressed with all the information on this site to help.

Nice looking car, and some great memories to boot. What tires are you running?

Great Day, congratulations to your daughter and new son.
I know a wedding photographer here who wants to use my 48 for picture shoot. And these cars are roomy in the back seat as friends of mine say, especially comparing them to the new cars. Have fun with the Merc, it's really neat.

tires are something I need to look at. I think he bought em in 1996 if I am reading the marking correctly. 6.00x16 tube type. Sidewall says Columbia Deluxe.

If they really are that old should I be looking for a new set next spring? Probably have less than 1000 miles on em and always kept inside, out of the sun.

I can imagine Grandpa Dean looking down at all the days events and smiling. Maybe in some way he was 'lending a hand' the whole time making sure the ol girl made it to Indiana, then started and behaved that day.

Let's analyze this another way..........If I bought a "protective device" in 1996, and have always kept it INSIDE my wallet....OUT OF THE SUN, should I be looking for a new one before my next date?

If you still had it 2016 I'd say you've been one hell of an unlucky fellow.

My old man once had a 41 merc town sdn before I was even thought of and horse traded it off before my time as well, but the fella who has it now is taking really good care of it, and took me for a ride in it, great road car them old Mercs are, always liked the 41 merc over the 41 ford. Benny

A friend on mine imported a 1941 Mercury from the USA a number of years ago. He removed the Radiator for cleaning, and while it was out, I took this photos of it. Does the Radiator in your Mercury look like this? I have never seen a Ford/Mercury Radiator with the unusual bottom outlets like this before. Would be interested in reading your comments?

Re: Fun with 41 Mercury

yes, mine has that those type outlets at each side. But it has a crank hole thru also. The outlets end up at about the same height as the crank/ fan center.
