Walt DuPont engine in my 39 cs

The engine in my 39 cs had so much blow-by you needed a gas mask to drive it! During the summer I contacted Walt DuPont to see if he was interested in building an engine for me. After an agreement was made he assembled the parts to build the engine. He started with a 221 ci engine that had the factory tin can sleeves, which were removed and the block was bored to 33/16 and a 4"Mercury crank was installed with Mercury pistons yielding 255 cubic inches.1939 heads were used.Skip Haney water pumps,8BA cam. The engine was dynamically balanced.Fort Wayne clutch provided a beafed up 9"clutch.A rebuilt "football" front mounted distributer and a Stromberg Big 97 carburetor was used. The engine started after 3-4 turns, no carb adjustments were needed. The engine ran dead quiet and smooth, oil pressure gage is pegged at 50psi hot even at idle. with less than 5 miles on engine it has very good power and electric motor smoothness and runs at thermostat temperature. The project is a total success thanks to the fantastic engine building skills of Walt DuPont. Thanks Walt. Phil Myers.

The Charlie Daniels of the torque wrench.... My whole life has been spent in mechanical endeavors and nothing is quite like a flathead v8 when it is done properly. Hat's off to Walt and the many others here that have perfected the craft.

I really had to think about that one.....for about three seconds, but YES.....with the finess and talent of a truly-gifted brain surgeon. DD

Sounds like you're ready for another Barners Bash with Vic. Gonna give him a run for pinks?

Chuck,The new engine really gets it done! I don't know what I would do with another 1939 convertable sedan. Lol.

I have already started to break it in fast driving it hard but not maintaining any constant RPMs!

Trainguy- Phil, and all the other guys, I won't be able keep my hat on, I've been building flatheads for 65 years, you've got to love em, flathead builders are getting fewer but Iv'e loved em since i was 14. I've got a flicker full of flatheads I've built in the last couple of years, I've got to get my doughter to put them on the barn. Thanks guys. Walt

Walt,
That is why they call you the "flathead king". You are not only a precision engine builder but a fun guy to be around with that Maine humor and funny accent.:)
