Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube

Will it affect oil pressure if it has become loose?

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube

If you are describing the baffle, NO it will not impact oil pressure. If you are talking about the bushing it will grossly impact oil pressure. Both could be called fuel pump pushrod "tube".

This is the bushing (tube) that will cause the oil pressure issue. It is located in the upper right of the diagram.

I believe he is talking about this smaller diameter formed sheet metal tube that's press fitted into the bottom of the fuel pump stand.....
.... And my answer to this question that's also asked on his previous post http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202758 regarding this same subject is...NO... that tube coming loose and bouncing around on the umbrella shaped part of the fuel pump rod will probably NOT affect oil pressure....but why not remove your fuel pump and fuel pump stand, fish that tube and the larger baffle tube out of the engine and fix that problem....if that's actually what's causing the rattling noise?? It would not be that difficult of a job to fix this problem IF that is really the issue.

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube

I agree with JM 35, not sure how the fuel push rod bushing would come loose, it is a very tight press fit.

Think its this tube... rattling...

I don't see a tube in that picture. I see a pushrod.

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube

To answer your question, if the bushing that Jseery posted is toast then it'll affect oil pressure. Are you having a problem with low pressure? If so, post your pressure numbers. When I first got my car on the road, it had a fresh professionally rebuilt engine and I was alarmed by the low oil pressure. I talked to the local flathead expert in Fairbanks and he said..."that's normal for flatheads". I'm taking his word for it and am just going to drive the car. Hot, it's about 15 psi on the 80 year old gauge. A couple bolts and a fuel line will answer your question.

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube

The picture he showed above illustrates the pushrod.....but the upper half of the pushrod is surrounded by the slender steel tube that was shown in the earlier picture of the fuel pump stand with this very same tube. The tube is supposed to be lightly pressed into the bottom of the fuel pump stand. His apparently fell out and is dancing about on the small "umbrella" of the pushrod.

Remove the stand. Clean the bottom opening and clean the top of the thin tube. Put some locktite into the opening and press the two back together. After it sets you can reinstall the fuel pump stand.

The common thread was lost on this problem when the OP started this new thread asking the same question that he had asked in his other recent post. This was all covered in his previous post almost verbatim as noted in post #4 above on this thread......

JM, I agree. The answer to the question would take 5 minutes of wrenching.

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube

In the first post I got clever leads as to what the rattling noise could be.
Then - with this knowledge at hand - I opened this thread - because I want to drive, and if possible, wait with the repair to the winter. (Opening the inlet manifold is NOT a 5 min job...) My car does not have pressure gauge - just a warning light. And cant reach the tube without opening manifold.

I now hereby conclude that I will leave it for now. Case dismissed ;)

You take the fuelpumpstand and the pushrod out.
No need to remove the intake.

"OP" means "Original Poster" (the person who started the thread).

No easy removable fuel pump stand in my car. See photos.

So its a manifold job. Or leave for now. IF it wont harm oil pressure.

Just another friendly reminder on why it is very important to include details on the vehicle and engine you are posting questions about, and another request to keep additional questions on the same topic in the original post. This is always best for folks trying to answer your questions rather than having them chasing their tails not knowing what has been posted previously.

Thank you all for advices and personal experience answers on this matter. This is also the way I humbly attend from time to time. I think this is what this forum is all about.

Getting personel corrections as how to ask - however, is not (my opinion)

....and yes, as you mentioned previously, "case dismissed"

Now I see, he has a French Ford Vedette. It is similar to a V8 60hp.
