Gettysburg V8 meet and friends

I want to thank all of these guys for all the fun we had in Gettysburg. Some of them are fordbarners as well as EFV8 club members. We had a great time hanging out over the past week and I can't wait to do it again. It was good meeting up with old friends and making some new ones as well. Thanks to Jeff Horrocks for letting me ride in his 36 pheaton, John Mason for a ride in his 35 fordor and John and Bryan Allen for great company for dinner on Wednesday night. I finally got to meet Frank Miller also. Not to forget Glenn Sanders and his wife Cheryl for the entertainment and cold beers! Thanks to all these guys and I'll see you again soon.

Seth, it was great to finally meet you. You (and Alex) helped lower the average age in that photo, too...

That's funny. I enjoy all the stories and knowledge you guys bestow on me. There are some young guys in the club and it's good to see them there as well.

Not only that.... but it also helped lower the average of guys with gray hair or nearly no hair at all!! Just sayin'... a big thanks to the younger crowd for hanging out with us :)

If I lived closer I'd be bothering you, Glenn and Jeff on a regular basis.

Seth: It was great to meet you, Eugene and your young friend. Hope you had a better trip home??? Look forward to seeing you again down the road sometime. Linda was glad to be able to talk farming with Eugene instead of cars with me.

The trip home was uneventful and that was a good thing! I'll be at more V8 meets hope to see you there.

I love the pic. Great to see everybody having a great time. You should get together again in about 10 years from now and retake the pic. Good to see the Early Ford Club is welcoming young guy people in the hobby.

How about putting some names with the faces in the picture?

Seth if I had been thinking better at the time, I would have suggested that you drive my 35 fordor over to the restaurant and back on Wednesday night, and gotten your feedback on handling, braking, etc.

Jeff offered me the same on Tuesday evening for a quick trip to the gas station for a fill up. I would love to drive either of your cars. I was a little nervous about that when Jeff offered knowing how special that 36 phaeton is to him. Next time we meet up I'll take you guys up on it.

I mentioned to Jeff that I may fly out to Chantilly if I can't get anyone else to come along with me. If that is the case Jeff graciously offered to loan me a ride for the week. There is plenty of time to consider.

John, when I rode in your car I was making some mental notes of how the '35 performed. This was my first ride in a V8 that was a pre 1939 model. Actually, my grandfather had a '32 five window Model B coupe for many years but I was only about 15-16 years old when he sold it. My driving experience of the '32 was limited to back roads and the yard. The next closest thing I could compare it to was my '31 Victoria and the '39 pickup. Your '35 sedan lies in the middle. I noticed it had the typical body roll as my Model A, however less noticeable in your sedan. Perhaps the lower profile of the '35 made for a better ride. The '39 pickup does experience body roll especially while in a turn. The transverse leaf springs could also account for some of this. The '47 sedan is a heavier car but it too experiences the same.

I'd have to drive it to tell about braking and acceleration as you suggested. Mechanical brakes can get a bad reputation but if set up properly they're as good as hydraulics. My model A with the brake floaters will stop right now if needed.

I built a hopped up 8BA engine once. With a mercury crank, isky cam, ross pistons, scat rods, Offenhauser heads and dual carb intake. It had noticeable more power over the stock V8. It suffered an over heat problem recently and I pulled it out for a looksey this winter.

I'm hoping a Central meet develops. Work schedule gets in the way of some of these meets but that is life. Next meet I attend with you guys I'm reserving more time to talk fords and b.s. about other stuff as well.

Seth

PS I'm looking forward to bringing that '40 Tudor when we get her back on the road.

Hi Everyone. I was having so much fun with the people I hardly got to look at the cars and trucks at all! So thanks to everyone for the photos that have been coming out.

I'm still on a high and was really glad to spend time with everyone, the last meet I went to was waay too brief!

Going to an RG36 meeting tonight so we'll hear a briefing about the meet, I'm pretty sure.

I'm also hatching a plan to fly to Bakersfield for the Western Meet, and it looks like we're gonna try for the Race Of Gentlemen which is on the West Coast for the first time! Yippee!

"I finally got to meet Frank Miller." You make me feel like a celebrity. I must say we are an eclectic bunch, privy to top secret Ford service bulletins about straps in the 35 Fords. :-)

Anyone who got to drive the cross country tour reached celebrity status by me. Wish I could have done that.
