32 Steering drop help
 

Hey guys, Im trying to get this drop apart, I got it this far, but am stuck..
The pin that slides in to lock the shaft, I cant get out.
Advice please..

You have to remove it from the steering column as it disassembles from the bottom, not the top.

Thanks David, so whats the best way to remove the drop from the column ?
Looks like the pinch on the drop is a bolt with the head broke off ?
Im thinking I can weld a washer then a nut to it like I do broke off head bolts ..
Sound good ?

Yes welding a nut on the bolt will work.Its originally a bolt with a twist off head.5/16 X 1 1/4 fine thread.I have used allen head bolts as replacement or originals available from 35TN here on the Barn.

Another way is to drill three small contiguous holes in the head of the bolt and use a screw driver to remove it. Or if you know someone with the original K.R. Wilson special tool for the job, maybe they'll let you use it as they really work well.

You can drill the bolt for an E Z out. Most are not that tight unless they are rusted. The switch must be in the ON position for the drop to slide off the tube. Be careful when working on the drop as the internal parts can be damaged easily. Any scars, gouges, scratches, dents etc. on any of these parts will cause them to stick or bind and will result in a poorly operating column drop assembly.

If you drill across the head to produce a screwdriver slot, you can reuse your original bolt and take it off at any time.

I ground a point on a bolt and stuck it to the pinch bolt, got it out then cleaned it up and cut a slot in it..
