Brake switch 1936 Ford truck.. I'm trying to get the ole truck road legal before I drive it to town for the parade on labor day. I have an original brake switch that screws on the transmission for the brake lights. Is there suppose to be a spring that attaches from the switch to the brake pedal? I think there is, but I haven't been able to find on yet. Also, where's a good place to find some brake lights to install on it? Thanks again... Bret

Re: Brake switch 1936 Ford truck.. I do not believe there is a spring involved. The brake light switch is a spring loaded pin type of switch that is mounted on the frame mount of the brake/clutch assembly. There are 2 holes about 1-1/4"" apart where the switch is mounted. This is from a car-P.U. assembly. It is possible a BIG truck is different. Hope this helps. Kerk P.S. Joes Antique Parts shows it as Part Number--48-13480 @ about $15.00 each - old catalog . Call him @1-800-508-3980

Re: Brake switch 1936 Ford truck.. On my 1934 big truck there IS a spring which attaches from the sliding pin in the switch to the pin on the brake pedal shaft. This is so that when the pedal is back, the linkage cannot pull too hard on the little shaft in the switch. I got the spring from one of the major suppliers (don't remember which) but it was too short so I made an extension so that when the brake pedal is back there is just enough tension on the sliding pin in the stop light switch to fully open the switch and hold it open until you push down on the brake pedal.

Re: Brake switch 1936 Ford truck.. My '36 pickup just has the spring in the switch. It can be adjusted so that the brake lights will go off when the pedal is up. The pedal has a return spring to keep it off of the switch.

Re: Brake switch 1936 Ford truck.. I believe the switch he would use is a 81T-13480, not the 48-.. Since his truck not a pickup or passenger car

Re: Brake switch 1936 Ford truck.. It's kind of confusing. The 1937 parts book shows BB-13480-A 1332-37 (chain control)
BB-13480-B 1934. The green book shows 81T-13480 Trucks 1932-38. The clamp for the chain is BB-13512, trucks 1932-37 it was also used for emergency brake rod retracting spring for 1939-40 trucks. Bob |
