Help 94 Carbs

Engine 8AB two 94 carbs. On offenhauser manifold with offenhauser heads. Lumpy Camshaft

Carbs have been built before. A long time ago. by unknown, One carb has been blocked with lead under the squirters. Should I remove the lead and make the accel. pump operation? Some one went to a lot of trouble to stop the accelerator pump from working. Not sure what to do.

You want both carbs set up and working exactly the same, along with straight linkage, IMO.

Re: Help 94 Carbs

Is it a "Regular" (carbs biased to the back) or "Super" (one carb over each group of intake ports) dual manifold? You might be able to get by with progressive linkage and different carbs on a "Regular", but not on a "Super". V8 Bob is giving you good advice. You're probably gong to have to start over, with at least rebuilt carbs and the proper linkage.

Re: Help 94 Carbs

With the lumpy cam you want to use power valves with a low enough vac. rating so they don't stay open all the time. You want the squirters all working, you can vary the amount they squirt as needed.

Thanks for the replies. What I though was a lead plug. Was The brass needel. I had to drill part of it out. Then the drill bit caught and it came out. Carbureator back on engine and seens to be running find.

I think you are referring to the accelerator pump check valve. If that was stuck it could have been the problem. I'm glad that fixed it; feel free to come back if you have any more problems since we were such a help with this one.

Re: Help 94 Carbs

If that's what the brass needle was, then it should be replaced as it also acts as a channel filler to avoid an air pocket, so the next time you step on the gas you will be guaranteed a shot of fuel and not air or half air/half fuel. If it runs OK without a hesitation, then maybe OK as is.
