Water Pump with Ceramic Seal Hello guys,
I'm in trouble with water pumps so I'm turning (again) to the members of this forum for help. Those so called leakless pumps don't seem to last (I do lots of miles) so I'm considering fitting a ceramic seal. I understand that such pumps were available a few years ago but no longer. Does anybody have one of those earlier pumps or any information on them, like which seal was used? Did they use an original core - if so, how were they converted? How much did they cost? How successful were they? Best of all would be one of the pumps that used to be available that I can inspect, even if it is worn out. Would there be any interest if I made more than I need for myself? |
Re: Water Pump with Ceramic Seal I am interested also, the lip seals seem to have a finite life.

Re: Water Pump with Ceramic Seal I have a ceramic seal W/P on my S/W Town Sedan that has been great for many years and many miles. I got it from Mac's, but they quit carrying them. I'd love to have another, for another car, if anyone finds a source.

Re: Water Pump with Ceramic Seal JIM, Thanks for that research and the link to Honest Charley. I believed that ceramic sealed water pumps were no longer available and I see no point reinventing the wheel if these are any good.
Does anybody here have knowledge of Charley's pumps? From the picture on his website, they even look original - just as I intended to do them. |
Re: Water Pump with Ceramic Seal 1 Attachment(s)
I think that pump is for a right hand drive since it has the grease fitting
on the left side.:D Bob |
Re: Water Pump with Ceramic Seal I ordered one a year ago, the Mac's pump no ceramic seal.

Re: Water Pump with Ceramic Seal Berts still carries pumps with ceramic seals as they have for many years.
Rusty water in cooling system will take out seals faster than antifreeze. I will not say anything about what a good idea rust inside an engine is...:D (sarcasm intended) I thought it was because in southern hemisphere the water rotates in the opposite direction when going down the sink! They have modern seals ... not sure if ceramic or not. Best to call them ... My catalog is from 2015! |

Re: Water Pump with Ceramic Seal So what additive in the water do most folk run ?? antifreeze, cutting oil , any running red line water wetter ??supposed to reduce temp plus stop corrosion ,
More rain coming up or should that be down ? |
Re: Water Pump with Ceramic Seal I've just received advice from a US member of this forum that Honest Charley's pumps (post 4) in fact do not contain a ceramic seal so the search/project goes on.
If someone checks out Bert's for ceramic pumps, please post the results here. It would not be a very difficult job (nor expensive) to make a water pump with a ceramic seal that would go on a Model A, only it would not look original. How important is an original look to people? For myself, I have drivers and such a pump would be just fine. Benson, I run a water recovery tank and have a magnet in the bottom of it to collect the fine rust particles. I figure that over not many cycles, all of the water in the cooling system would have gone through the tank and the rust removed from it. The tank is not made of magnetic material so to stop the magnet blocking the outlet, I put a short piece of steel on each side to hold it off the bottom enough for the coolant to get by. |
