32 pickup 4 cyl exhaust mounting One more question tonight. I'm trying to figure out the mountings for my 32 4cyl pickup. The header pipe is new, but is weirdly bent toward the ground instead of going straight back. I'll probably cut that off under the trans mount cross member.
However, my question is about the muffler placement, angle, and distance from the ground. I have the supposedly proper exhaust pipe (from the back of the muffler) and tail pipe piece that goes through the hole in the rear cross member. But I'm wondering what types of mounts are used, where they are bolted to the chassis or body, etc. I would expect all 32 4cylinders will be the same, whether car or pickup. Anyone have photos of the above?? Thanks much! |
Re: 32 pickup 4 cyl exhaust mounting 3 Attachment(s)
The photos below show the two attachment points and clamps used on the rear of the muffler/front of the tailpipe and at the rear cross member where the two pieces of the tailpipe meet.
Also shown in the last photo is what an original B muffler inlet pipe looked like. |
Re: 32 pickup 4 cyl exhaust mounting I am working on my Exhaust now on my 32 Pickup, the first photo of DavedG's is original, but Ford later used an early V8 clamp and V8 muffler.
I have not posted photo recently, DavidG has photo that is on same page as the first picture in Early Ford V8 book I just purchased. It is a two volume set of books and I purchased off Amazon, $ 64.00 plus change and tax. It is well worth the money to answer questions like this, thank you DavidG, hope you can post the other photo for him, Bruce I did make a replica strap out of an electrical heavy wall conduit one hole strap, used the dimensions from book. Looks good, did not read correctly or I would have used the V8 strap. |
Re: 32 pickup 4 cyl exhaust mounting 2 Attachment(s)
If your muffler's inlet and outlet are offset from one another like the late '32 V-8 and post-'32 service versions, then the rear of the muffler/front of the tail pipe is secured with a V-8 crossover pipe clamp and the bridge support to the running board bracket as shown below.

Re: 32 pickup 4 cyl exhaust mounting Thanks, Bruce and David. Very helpful. I didn't know the early 32s used a one-piece header & muffler. I have a new muffler with the off-sets. These pics are a great help!
