Re: $600 side bowl Sold for over $600, don't question the seller, question the mentality of the buyer and the bidders. Wayne

Re: $600 side bowl Is there something special or unique with the carburetor, beside being a side bowl? I don't know much about 31 model A's, being a 28/29 A owner. The carburetor isn't even rebuilt. This must be a shill bidder, which I don't understand as the seller would have to pay roughly $60 or $70 in PayPal and epay fees at the ending bid. It appears the last bidder was willing to go even higher, as he has two more bids after the winning bid.

Re: $600 side bowl It's because it is a Zenith 3 side bowl. How many zenith 3's have you seen?

Re: $600 side bowl 1 Attachment(s)
It's a little hard to see but the one is this auction looks like a 3.

Re: $600 side bowl I'm confused - To my eye, it's not a side bowl. The bowl is still located in front of the carby, just like the others. The main difference I noticed was the weird way the fuel line would attach. That is at the side.
I've never seen such a carby. From a previous post, it seems it is from a 1931 model A. As far as I know, the Ford dealers here refused to accept any cars in 1931. Ford tried to ram more cars down their throats even though there were lots of 1930 cars left unsold. 1930 cars were still being sold new here in about 1932-3, I'm told. maybe that's why I haven't seen one but calling it a side bowl doesn't seem right. If it were a true side bowl carby, I could see the wisdom of it, considering the stalling problems inherent in the 28/9 Zenith carbies. |

This is the carb we are taking about

Re: $600 side bowl If it really sold for that then PT Barnum was correct about a fool is born every minute. There are rebuilt and tested units for far less then 600.00 on Ebay.

Re: $600 side bowl Maybe it is time to put my Zenith 3 lower casting on ebay. The 3 is alittle hard to read due to rust so probably won't bring top money. Rod

Re: $600 side bowl Zeniths 3 Carbs are quite rare due to a very small number of them being made, and the fact that they were not well made , being very thin. Generally any of them, side bowls or not, bring $500-700. The non side bowl versions are even harder to find then the side owl versions.

Re: $600 side bowl The 3 bottoms sell for more than than the 3 tops.

Re: $600 side bowl It makes the -3 side filter I picked up for $30 seem like a bargain. I don't have any intention of using it, I just bought it as it was different to all my other Zeniths in my collection. Also, that there were no 31's originally bought into Australia, makes it a rare find down here, and most likely off a later import.

Re: $600 side bowl 2 Attachment(s)
here are a couple pictures that show Zenith 2 Sidebowl and a Zenith 3 Sidebowl.

Here are pics of my Zenith 3 carbs. They are pretty much restored to
RG&JS guidelines. Steve is right. Ford built them too thin. Ray |
