Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story That's because his father was an Oldsmobile man...;)

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story That story is my childhood all over. Same looking house, converted coal furnace, scary electrical wiring, school, everything. Downtown all decorated with the store window displays, the works.
Had the same thing happen to me in galoshes. Fell in a snow bank and couldn't get up. Joey C stuck his tongue to a fence pole and my brother Donny almost shot his eye out. In the basement though. His thick glasses saved his eye. LOVE that movie. Now I gotta count cars. Scott (FROM Buffalo) |
Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Hi Everyone, Jean Shepherd, who wrote the story that Christmas Story is based on, wrote many hilarious books. One that I read every few years is "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories And Other Disasters." It's a bust-out-loud book. Very easy to read. The kids may even get a kick out of it.

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Well the father did not have the best taste. But only 4 minute to change a tire. Pretty good

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Bad taste but, He did win a MAJOR award!
I will check out that book Jeff. If it's anywhere near as funny as Christmas Story, it's got to be good. |
Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story And it was Italian ------Fra gile-------

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Seems strange to me that the people who were kids from the 40's through the 80's this show means a lot and much is familure, but the kids after that it don't seem to have the same meaning. Rod

I thought that fire truck that shows up @ the school yard was either a 38 or 39, its looks like a barrel nose to me. Scott |
Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story The only Ford that comes to mind quickly is the rusty Model A (Tudor I believe) body only on the ground where Ralphie beats up Scud.

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story As I remember there was a 28-29 2 door sedan in the garage and the remains of a sport coupe outside.I am planning to watch it again tonight. Phil

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Not enough that's for sure!!!

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story I am watching again tonight and counted 14 up to the big fight. I missed the fire truck but got the 2 model a at the back round of the fight

A Christmas Story (1983)
1940 Ford De Luxe Fordor 1947 Ford Pick Up 1938 Ford Fire Truck My grade school, Woodrow Wilson School, looked very similar to the school building in the movie. We presently live in the next to the town that the movie is portraying. |
Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Ralphie's house is in Cleveland (now a museum) and the Higbee store where the window scenes were shot is now the Horseshoe Casino on public square. I spent many Christmas times there in the late 40s. shopping with my mother. They had beautiful window displays. When the movie was made, my buddy Roger had a 41 Chevy pickup, and was a paid extra in the movie. He now owns a beautiful blown flathead powered 26 T coupe. Paul Selfe.

Am told some of it was filmed in Whiting, Indiana. Not sure if true. I do know it was based on growing up in Hammond, Indiana, which is a stone throw away from my city. The town in the movie, Hohman, Indiana, is named after the main street in Hammond, Hohman Avenue. Here is my Ford on Hohman Avenue, Hammond, Indiana.

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Looks like JC Harris Elementary in West End Atlanta, here I went for few years a long time ago. Wonder if it is still there. My Dad could also weave a cloud of profanity, boy do I miss him! Ford galore!

Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Jean Shepherd, before he wrote 'A Christmas Story', was one of the best radio talk show hosts that ever lived (some would say even better than T.D. Mischke).
Through the 50's, 60's and 70's he could be heard on New York power house AM stations telling stories but almost never taking calls from listeners. One of my favorite radio broadcasts was of Shepherd telling how he "helped" rebuild "the ol man's" carburetor on the families new Pontiac while dear old dad was sleeping on the couch. Hilarity ensued. Luckily, many of Shepherd's original broadcasts exist in their entirety today. ...There isn't a single broadcast that I haven't heard (from either Shepherd or Tom Mischke) Beats the heck outta today's new "Dark Side" proclaimed block buster movies any day - hands down - without comparison. Many of Shep's stories can be found on youtube and on line at Flick lives... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p88b9icA5kM (army stories) http://www.flicklives.com/ (you can check out the show/database of free downloads at the drop down menu/link) Shows from the 50's and 60's are amongst the best but I would say there wasn't a bad show in Shepherd's long and extensive career. ..For those that are interested in Shep trivia, wikipedia is a good start... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Shepherd Shep is sadly missed... ...And although Tom Mischke is still kicking around somewhere, His nightly Broadcasts on 1500 KSTP disappeared from the ether years ago... http://www.mischkemadness.com/ . |
Re: How many ford do you see in the Christmas story Don't know if it's true, but I was told Jean Shepard was in the movie. He played the man who berated Ralphie for cutting in line to see Santa. Paul Selfe.
