1930 rear window glass
 

I've had a couple pieces of glass cut for my 30 rear window and am having a hard time making them fit.
I made a pattern From the opening and went about 1/4" more and it still doesn't fit right. My first window went in ok but cracked as soon as I went down the road. Just had another one made and now there's s gap at the top.
Is the rear window opening curved at the top?

Where would I find these bulletins? Are they on line?

The parts houses sell them, but try to buy the full size edition, rather than the downsized yellow book. The national clubs used to have an excellent set for sale, and that's where I bought mine back in the early 90's. Sure wish they would make them again.

Ralph,

The bulletin calls for a height of 10-5/8"to 10-11/16", width of 23-5/8" to 23-11/16", with corner radius of 1-1/2". The top and bottom curves are specified as "13/64 TRUE SWEEP" which I take to mean that the variation from straight at the middle of the glass is 13/64".

That makes more sense than specifying a radius which would be in yards.

The larger green copy is what Tom is talking about. Old eyes and the yellow book just don't get along very well. Bratton's shows both copies in their on line catalog.

Thanks, all this info will be a big help when I go back to the glass shop.
I thought about just bringing the car in to them, but I really prefer to be the only one putting a wrench, or screwdriver in this case, to my car.

FWIW, take it to them, easier, and if they break another one it's on them.

They've been really good about it, made new ones at no charge.
The drawings will be a big help if I can figure out how to print

Thanks, looks like the bottom as well as the top of the glass has the sweep.
No wonder they are having trouble.
Another thing I just noticed is the door glass is higher in rear than front.
I would have never thought this by looking at the original pieces of door glass I have from my car.

Are you using tempered or laminated glass? It might be just me but I would never use plate glass in my car.

The first diagram (top left) is incorrectly labelled as being for Tudor and Coupe. I believe the correct dimensions for these models are shown in the diagram on the right end of the second row.

Bought a rear window glass for my coupe from Brattons. 70$ for perfect fit safety glass, no issues.

Strange, I pulled the old glass out of my door and measured it.
25-1/8" wide by 15-1/2" tall, no taper.
And the measurements do not match either drawing???
Am I ok to have the door glass copied, or is it completely wrong ?

OK, did a search and apparently neither of those shown in the chart are correct for 1930-31 coupes. See link below which shows close to what you have:

I just put new felt channels in my door, and slid in a piece of my exsisting glass. It fits fairly snug on the sides in the channels, but when I move it all the way down even with the top of the garnish it is about an inch and a half from touching the bottom rubber bumper.
Seems like the drawing height could be right, but the width of the drawing is too wide.

if my old glass fits correctly i have the new pieces cut from those.... regardless if they match the spec sheet or not
i do have all my glass from my30 tudor for future reference..

This would certainly seem like the way to go! You spend $70 dollars and you know it is right ! Wayne
