Lube in a Syringe
 

The man I bought my Model A from gave me a ton of stuff with it including a syringe with some form of lubricant in it.

What is it for?

I'm sure I could use some but he was pretty adamant about it.

Of course he also said 600W was the correct motor oil.

600W oil is for the differential and transmission not the motor. A syringe would be very useful for topping up the Diff & Trans.

I use a syringe to put 600w in steering gearbox. Would take a while to fill a differential with a syringe.

You will find syringe locked up very shortly with patroleum product in it, the rubber in plunger swells and it will be useless..only syringe useable for patroium products is total glass ones used for Arterial draws..

I have an ordinary syringe filled with 90wt, have used it over 5 years, yes the rubber swells some but if you use a blow gun to push the plunger out , fill it, stuff it back in it will work, I use it to inject oil into squeaking sealed ball joints---

A guy at work told me there are no zerks on the ball joints of his Honda, he uses a syringe to lube them.

I used a syringe with PB Blaster to break up the grease that coagulated within several grease channels when I first purchased my Model A. I removed zerks and injected. It seemed to help break up the clogs.

If he pokes the syringe through the rubber boot on front drive axles to add grease, I'd advise against that. He'd probably be doing more harm than good. I did that on one of my cars back in the 80's, and within a month or two the boot had torn, and within a year the front drive axle was shot and had to be replaced.:mad:

That is the impression that I got or at least something along those lines. Don't understand how he would use it for that or as a new Model A guy did I miss something (else)?

Hey John,
Just use your imagination , about the uses for a syringe, when challenging situations for adding fluids present themselves, eh :)

For decades, I have used syringes to add AND remove fluids of all kinds.
I have a number of different sizes of this tool and select the appropriate size for the job at hand. And, as far as the fluid affecting the rubber plunger, I just rinse the tool out after each use , and have experienced no such problem ever. Us guys without car lifts and such great expensive equipment , use imagination to get things done using simple/cheap stuff.
For example, I top off, A rear/trans , with a large (balling gun) type syringe; I use a small syringe to top off steering gear; I use a medium syringe with looong hooked nose to fill/top off master brake reservoir and I use a very large syringe , with a tube attached , to remove fluids just about anywhere.

600W would probably be correct for a REALLY LOOSE, OLD, WORN OUT ENGINE!
I used a huge old V-2 compressor, that looked like a Flat Head Harley. When it would start that HEAVY knock, I added a touch of 90W & it was silent. Sold it to a friend in 1988 & it's still PUMPIN'

Not knowing what exactly is in the syringe I would just squirt it in with the used oil from my next oil change and start fresh.

It is a small syringe and it looks like 600W in it. Certainly isn't anything you'd use for differential or anything else of that nature as it is simply to small.

I was wondering about possible the distributor or something along those lines. Maybe the water pump?

Distributor uses a lighter oil. I use engine oil for it.
Steering box uses 600 wt. If it is a leaker try the Penrite lube in the steering box. Do not use grease in it.
