1951 F-1 Grille Paint

Where can I buy the cream color grille paint for my `51 F1? Is it called Ivory?

Thanks

If you want factory correct, you'd probably have to have a paint shop match. I like "International Harvester white" which is actually a tan/cream. I also like 'Cub cadet beige'. I used the latter for the grille on my '48.

The grilles were Argent on 5-Star Extra cabs

Thank you! I'll go with that.

Friend's '51 F-3 flatbed was originally Vermillion, including the grille. He just got finished getting it repainted - I tried to talk him into painting it cream or argent silver to break up all the red on the truck: he didn't take my advice. Monotone actually didn't look bad when finished. Then again, against my advice he also painted his firewall black instead of body color. Ugh...

Ross, Was the 5 star extra grill in '51 Ivory like the '52? I just sold two front clips to a fellow FTE member. One was a '52 F1 with an Ivory grill and the second one was a '51 F5 5star extra and it was Ivory as well. Neither one had been repainted.

Mark, In one of my books (the Don Bunn book) it says for '51: "The 5-Star Extra package included.... Argent Silver grille finish (on early units, later painted Ivory)...." Good catch!

BTW, there is a later Ford color, I believe it is Windsor White, that is pretty close to Ivory. (not Wimbledon White)

Ross, I was actually surprised when I saw that it was Ivory, as I thought all '51 were Argent.

I found this guide on an earlier post later last night. It does not mention 1951 grilles but does the `52. Sungate Ivory it will be! If I can find it..
Thanks to all.

Ivory looks really yellow on that site, at least on my monitor.

The way I've heard it, the early grilles on 5 Star Extra trucks were Argent with chrome head light doors. The Korean conflict took chrome from civilian applications resulting in Argent used on the head light doors and Ivory used on the grilles. Body color was a fairly common feature on base 5 Star models. The only official description I've seen for the Ivory is in the dealer/salesman handbook. It says it's a "neutral Ivory paint which blends with any of the Standard Body Colors." Stu
