35 pickup body repairs
 

Getting ready to make repairs to the body of our 1935 pickup and you can tell from the pictures that there will be some amount of metal work involved after the sandblasting. Will probably remove the metal bed covering the floor and install a decent oak or ash floor for now.

Are there any re-production panels available for the front of the bed and other parts that are of decent quality ??.

Jakno,
I left my original steel floor in place and covered it with gel-stained and urethaned plywood.
The structural integrity of the bed is maintained and the cost was less than the wood bed floor kits.
Plus I can change the look without breaking the bank.
I ordered the rub strips cut to my size and with the holes punched in the stock locations.

Nice looking work. Will have to see what we have left of ours after the sand blasting. We may be going with the traditional "Maine Body". 1/2 dozen 2x4's and some used cross arms.

Underneath that wood the steel floor is full of holes, but it kept everything together and acted as a nice template for where to put the rub strips and bolts.
The metal was sandblasted and epoxy painted top and bottom to prevent further decay.

Just got my Mack Hills 32 box and the quality was excellent. I would use replacement parts from them if I was fixing a box.

Scott- Congrats on all the progress on your truck! Question- seems like the section of original bed that holds onto the bed bolts could continue to get kind of sloppy under a fascade like that, as on mine those areas are pretty rusted, and only kinda holding. Did you add any new material around the mounting area, or just blast and paint? Did you add new, longer, bed bolts that go though the new layers too? Thanks for additional input! -Chris

I'm not done with the bed bolts yet, but yeah, they need to be 1/2" longer to account for the thickness of the plywood.
I figure the plywood supported by the original cross-members gives it enough structure and the steel that is sandwiched in between is just a bonus. I don't plan on hauling loads of gravel or scrap iron in it.
I don't think the original steel is going to erode any more, as again I have it coated in epoxy paint on top and bottom, plus it is going to have a much easier life than previously, and the steel is protected under the plywood.

Any part of the PU beds are available including stake pockets and re-popped steel floor, rivets, mounting bolts etc.

Here is one place you can look, but I'm sure someone else makes the parts for everyone selling them.

Mack Hills is where I got parts for my 1934 pickup and bought metal floor, tailgate, front panel and I replaced the would under metal floor with oak that Mack's sells. Was very pleased with parts and they are just like the originals.

Nope, cab is still being painted. Might be playing with windows and back glass in a couple months.
