New Winfield update

I forgot to let those interested know that I have the Winfield core plug all cut and have test fit it in the foundry mold. It fits perfectly. I discussed cores with the new core shop I plan to use for these. I hope to keep thing on track for getting castings some time in January. But it will depend on how quick the core shop can produce them. If you would like to get in on the first run of these 6:1 heads let me know. Several people are already on board.

I probably missed reading about this in other posts. Is this a cast iron Winfield head that looks just like the original cast iron Winfield? If so, put me down for one. Great project. Thanks.

Hey Tod,
Thanks for posting update :) ! Yup, still in line, but for 8:1 !
This is for the 'CROWS FOOT' chamber...correct ?

Good to know that you are not frozen solid with all the climate warming thing going on !
Also, hope you got all of you BIG machines back on line.

Finally, anything going on with block project ?

Looks like it's cracked from the center oblong water hole over to the round hole near it on the side opposite the dist. side.

In that area I have added a rib that supports the deck against the top of the casting. There are other strengthening ribs added also.

Here is a couple of pictures of my Super Winfield head. Its a little different than many I have seen. I think its about 8:1. Have any of you seen a super that is cast iron and has such small combustion chambers?

I couldn't get the bottom 2 pics to open up.

Here are those pics again. I must have somehow loaded thumbnail size ones initially.

How deep are those chambers?

Re: New Winfield update

They are only about 1/2" deep.

Hey Binger,
Yeah, that chamber looks like my super Winfield aluminum head.
If yours is an original windield...look closely on the 'pad', as I understand that Winfield had the comp ratilo stamped on that pad ?
Here's my aluminum Winfield

The valve pockets have been modified slightly to ensure that large valves (1.75") will work with this super Winfield. But, I'm holding off using it, as I'm waiting for Tods IRON copy with crows foot chambers...which You and I do not have on these two heads , BUT Juggler does have :)!!

They'll all crack there if they get hot enough. Ribs sound good but may impede the flow of water. There's already plenty of columns for the water to have to flow around as it is.

Yup, and less water volume flowing as a result of a thicker deck than the original manufacturer intended and along with more obstructions, known as ribs.

The truth is, no one knows how the head will work exactly until it is proven in the field.
