Making some progress
 

It's been almost 2 years since starting this project, but I think I'm making some progress.

The body is ready to go to the paint shop.

The picture makes it look like there are distinct lines where I welded in patch panels, but it's not really too bad. Nothing a little filler won't fix.

I know it pretty much looks like the avatar, but trust me, I took every bolt and body rivet apart and built it back up on new subrails. Cut out a lot of rusty stuff and put in fresh.

It should come back nice and shiny black in the spring.

are you mudding it or is the paint shop?
stay on those guys they like to park them in the corner of the shop and work on it between insurance jobs

No. I'm going to leave the filler to the paint shop. He's gonna bang out a few dings in the body also.

The bodyman has had my friend's 31 widebed pickup box for 12 years. :mad:

My friend and I finished the cab and running gear 12 years ago and have driven the chassis up and down the road before we mounted the cab.

Fill-in jobs definitely get pushed aside.

Well done on your progress Tommy. Keep at it. I can't wait till I get to the same stage with my coupe project. Just about to start putting my rear end together.

I found the trick, I DON'T pay them 1 thin DIME, until it's DONE! YES, they'll WHINE & say they need MONEY for materials!----------------"Then go get yourself a loan"!-----If that don't cut it, I just go to a different shop. There must be 150 paint/body shops in town!

The green one is my father's '31 coupe. The '30 fordor is my mother's.
It's nice being able to look at cars in one piece when I'm trying to piece mine back together.

Update.

I got the body back from paint about 2 weeks ago which has given me some needed motivation. :) Feels like I just shifted to another gear.

Got the engine running yesterday. Yippy !
A couple cranks and a short tug on the choke and off it went.
Blew a big mouse nest out of the tailpipe, and had a leak around one of the coolant hoses and a small valve cover leak, but runs nice.

I'll fix the leaks and get it ready to put the body back on.

Don't worry. The gas tank in the picture is not the one I plan to run. :)

Got the body on today. I think it's loooking good. I know it has creme colored wheels and whitewalls (for now) so no need to comment on the tires. :)

Maybe it's time to change my avatar. :)

Looking good. Nice to see someone making progress. My project is still on indefinate delay. Was hoping to be back working on it by now, but it will be atleast next March before I can get started again. Rod

Well. I got Fred out on the street on Saturday. It was awesome !!

I put a dining room chair inside and drove up and down my road.
The chair was way too tall, and I looked like Shrek all hunched over the wheel, and it's hard to drive like that, but it was a successful run.

Sunday, I took it out again, but I bolted the seat in it first. The seat isn't restored yet so I basically just had springs sticking into my backside. It still was much more comfortable than the dining room chair.

Ran strong, shifted nice and the brakes actually worked nice. The only thing I need to figure out is the spark advance.
When I initially timed the engine, I'm almost certain that I had the points in the fully advanced position. I didn't have the steering column handy at the time, and I knew one way was advanced and was retarded, so I took a 50/50 guess, and picked wrong.
Now, when I start it, the rod has to be all the way down, and moving it up makes it sound like it's bogging down.
