Everytime I mention fixing up my car I get the "leave it the way it is" and "It's only original once". This is usually from guys with pristine restored cars.

Well I got tired of the stained and saggy headliner and the mice ate part of the back seat a year ago. Here is what I found.

If I'm not mistaken, those are 1942 and 1951 created nests. I believe they are protected by state and federal laws. If you remove or alter them you could face fines and criminal prosecution.

Mmmm, yum! Nothing like driving an old classic with the aroma of field mice lingering in the headliner.

I've never let anyone's opinion change my way of thinking about how I want my cars to look, perform and/or smell...!!! It's your car, do what you want and pay no attention to others opinions, including mine! Have fun with the car.;)

Jim, I recently found an Hornets nest in the headliner of my '35 5w coupe. They had chewed a small hole through the headliner to use as access in/out of their nest. I didn't realize they were there until I was sitting in the car looking around and happened to look up and see the hole. I reached up to touch the headlinner and out of the nest they came. Somehow I managed to get out of the car without getting stung :).

I may have a better one, had a snake living in the headliner of one car!

If something has deteriorated beyond it's usefulness, it only makes sense to repair/replace it.
I agree, with the "it's your car, do what you want with it crowd".

IMHO, the best person to determine what is correct for a particular vehicle is the one whose name appears on the title.

Mice can be a serious problem. They had made one nest that completely filled the area under the seat and around the gas tank in my 45 pickup, but the most surprising was the one in the bellhousing.

Mice like that are VERY dangerous. You can get very sick being exposed to mouse pee and droppings. Best to get rid of all of that like you are doing.

I wasn't listening to anyone but me. I left the old in because i didnt have budget for new. Will rethink that next time.

My 40 was exposed to the elements only a short time, while i rebuilt my garage years ago, but the mices had enough time to get in thru the tail pipe and built a nest in the rusted mufflers.
