Best flathead pick Hello again

Re: Best flathead pick I have smitty's. I like them. Porters are cool too.

Re: Best flathead pick I use Brockman Mellow-Tones Steel Packed mufflers on our Flatheads, with Red's Headers.:) Brockman will custom make you a set of mufflers (steel or glass packed) to achieve the sound you want. I like a mellow rumble and rapping, when I let off the gas.;)

Re: Best flathead pick The Key to a great sounding engine, lays in the diameter and length of the tail pipes. For a stock or mild modified engine I'd go with 1 3/4 in pipe. Back in the early 50/s I had a 33 chevy with 1-1/2 in water pipe (My dad was a plumber) straight out the back. The rap was so bad it broke a window.

Re: Best flathead pick Following recommendations on this forum I had Brockman Steel Pack Mellow Tones (22") put on the flathead-powered duals on my '34 pickup. They were so LOUD I couldn't hear the person talking next to me in the cab.
I had to replace them with turbos. The sound is still very noticeable but maybe I can convince my wife to ride in the truck now! If you want to hear then go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFPops4PlII |
Re: Best flathead pick I have had Smithy's on my '41 for 16 years. I think they have the best sound not too loud-just right. Also, they show no signs of rust etc. and I have been caught in rain, snow and even a sleet.

Re: Best flathead pick Another vote for Smithys 22", not the longer ones, they're too quiet. My Smithys with 1 3/4" pipes sounds perfect to my ears.

Re: Best flathead pick Those are the Brockmans. That healthy rumble becomes painfull on the road. Obviously, sound (volume) tolerance is a subjective thing. They were just loo loud for me.

Re: Best flathead pick Mufflers on a flathead? No

Re: Best flathead pick I run smittys on my 41 50 merc engine w/reds headers , not to loud just right
|
Re: Best flathead pick I have Brockman's along with a set if their Echo Cans. Great sound, and no problem with them being too loud on the road.
|
Re: Best flathead pick I had straight pipes on my F1, was just a little too much. Installed 18 inch glass Brockmans and is now just right. And Red's headers. To cut down cab noise, use some of the sound deadner.http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Best flathead pick Red's headers + Brockman steel packs = just right for me.
