36 Convertible Frame Cowl Supports 1 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys,
Drake and Macs sell these for 36 convertibles and Woodies, does anyone have pics of them mounted on a frame? Drake lists the part number as 78-5046/7, are they actually '37 parts? Thanks! Todd |
Re: 36 Convertible Frame Cowl Supports I can't look at my car or body parts book till the weekend, but from the picture in the 35-36 V8 club restoration book it looks about the same

These braces were used in 35 and 36 convertible sedans and cabriolets. Here is a photo of the driver's side one mounted between the outer frame rail and inner X member just in front of the battery box and just behind the pedal assembly.

Re: 36 Convertible Frame Cowl Supports Thanks Don - really appreciate it. Do you know if they should also be on a 36 station wagon frame? The big parts sellers include wagon in their descriptions.

Re: 36 Convertible Frame Cowl Supports 2 Attachment(s)
I may be wrong here since I have never restored a 35/36 woodie, but I believe that the lower cowl footing is different from the conv sedan and cabriolet. The woodie like the closed cars is supported at the top of the cowl by roof structure and doesn't need as wide a foot print at the bottom for stability. The conv sedan and cabriolet has an extra wide brace at the front and rear of the cowl to give it extr support when the door are open and the top is down. The extra frame brace that you questioned gives the rear cowl "footing" a place for another set of bolts. My photos show what I believe to be a woodie cowl on the left and a cabriolet cowl on the right. Hope this helps.

Re: 36 Convertible Frame Cowl Supports Thanks Don - the woodie cowl you show on the left matches my woodie cowl on the one I'm almost done with, and also the woodie project/pieces that I have up on ebay right now. I don't have any pictures of my Cabriolet's cowl in that spot, but I can definitely see the difference, thanks for posting. I have owned several woodies in various states of repair/disrepair and didn't recall ever seeing the braces I posted the picture of above.
I'll have to check my Cabriolet this spring to make sure it has them, I guess I never paid attention. Thanks again for your help! |
