quick wishbone question

i have a 36 coupe im building as a taildragger/early custom. i was wondering if there is any reason people choose to split the wishbone (using the CE kit) other then to just be able to use a different trans. i am using a stock dropped axle, 37 bones, stock (but with a reversed eye) spring...nothing special really. The only thing is it is going to be pretty low compared to some. Any help would be great!

Re: quick wishbone question

My feeling is, do not split the wishbone. If you do think that you need to do the splits, then get a later wishbone to use on your set up. The '35/'36 wishbones are really neat and should be coveted because they use the narrower axle wishbone bolts. So, all the later ones are readily available so use them.

I will let you do other searches about front end set ups to evaluate what I have said here.

Quick answer, don't need to split when using a 3 speed trans of most any kind.
Normally split when using an automatic, to clear the pan.

Can't see a reason why you would, use a CE front anti sway bar as well and you'll be surprised at how well it can corner..

Well, I'm sure as heck no expert, but I think you nailed it. The only reason I know of to do that is for clearance issues when using a different transmission.

Of course, you are going to have to post some pics of this thing you are building so we can all be sure. 'Specially if it is a '36. ;)

funny you say that HEARD, because when i got this thing it had a packard grill and currently has 37 headlights...so it looks a little far from a 36 now.

Oh man...that looks like a fun project to me! Very cool! Go ahead and make it a 36 1/2.

Thanks for posting.

As I have written before, splitting the wishbones on the Fords, '35 and later is waste of time and money unless you are putting an automatic trans in the car, or are building a drag race car..
If you look back through the forum about a week plus, you'll see that we really beat this topic to death..

sorry blucar, not on here a lot, hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.

To kind of wrap this topic up, i have decided not to split the wishbones, and im going to be using a t-5 trans. thanks everyone for all the info.
